Exterior
This Four Square House complements the existing landscape and is painted in historically accurate colors from Sherwin Williams Preservation Palette; body SW2808- Rookwood Dark Brown, Trim SW 6127- “Ivoire”, sashes and front door SW 2801-“Rookwood Dark Red”, bargeboard and back doors SW 2815-“Renwick Olive", gutters, eaves, fascia and porch ceiling SW 2827- “Colonial Revival Stone”.
This lackluster exterior was sorely in need of some fresh color and the client wanted blue. HC-160 “Knoxville Gray” is a beautiful, rich hue without too much saturation, which makes it easy on the eye. The other architectural elements are painted in; belly band: HC-94 “Old Salem Grey” Contrasting trim: #247 “Consentino Chardonnay”.
The existing contrasting, painted trim on this house was too busy and didn’t make visual sense. We cleaned up the look of this exterior by limiting the color palette to one body color; body AF-105 “Elkhorn”, trim AF-340 “Oat Straw”, front door HC-158 “Newburg Green”. The front door really adds some punch.
This Craftsman home received the elegant make over it deserved with these colors; body HC-87 “Ashley Grey”, window sashes C2-322 “Savile Row”, trim OC-17 “White Dove”, front door C2-003 “Merlot”.
The white trim against the roofline on this ranch style house was too conspicuous. Painting it a dark value instead, in C2-337 “Twilight” mitigated this prominence. Body is painted in HC-77 “Alexandria Beige”, porch floor, BM # 994 “Fallen Timber” gutters, and fascia and trim Ben Moore #915 “Cameo White”.
Did you know brick can be stained? By doing so the color can be changed while the underlying texture still shows through. The red brick on this stately home was transformed by brick stain tinted with SW 2827 “Colonial Revival Stone”. Stucco is painted in SW2822 “Downing Sand” and trim is BM OC-130 “Cloud White”.
The homeowner’s new front door had just received a beautiful custom stain resembling roasted chestnuts. The challenge? - to find paint colors to harmonize with the new door color and the existing pewter colored body; porch columns, decking and porch fascia, C2-2449 “Brunette”, window trim, gutters and roofline fascia BM AF-125 “Morrel”.
Colored roofs can often prevent a challenge and will often dictate the direction of the scheme. In this case, with a red roof, we went with a complimentary color of green for the body and connected it with a neutral gutter and fascia color; body C2 423 “Fossil”, gutters and fascia SW 6041 “Otter”, railings BM OC-92 “Mannequin Cream”
This horizontality of this house was over emphasized by the layered horizontal bands of stark white, which almost seemed to be stretched on either end. By painting the lower band of brick and the gutters in the existing body color, yet at twice formula, the horizontal composition is enhanced and no longer an exaggeration.
